Dear Friends:

“The purpose of life is not just to live, but to ensure the continuity of our people by raising children who are proud of their Jewish heritage and ready to pass it on to future generations. L’dor v’dor is our mission and our legacy.”*

As we prepare to gather for the Yamim Noraim, the Days of Awe, we will have the opportunity to reconnect with each other, pray together, celebrate and mourn together. This is a time for personal introspection – an opportunity to reflect on the past year , both as an individual and as a member of our community. One of our most important communal responsibilities is to ensure that our Jewish history, culture and values live on l’dor v’dor – from generation to generation. This year, we are asking you to support the Jewish community of the future by making a Kol Nidre donation to our Congregation Albert Scholarship Committee’s Youth and Camp Scholarship Fund.

Studies conducted by the American Camping Association (ACA) and the Foundation for the Jewish Camps (FJC), as well as countless testimonials from tens of thousands of camp alumni, confirm the value and benefits of attending Jewish camp. All the data indicates that the Jewish camp experience sets the stage for our children to become lifelong “mensches” as they live meaningful lives, and lead and participate in creating a more just compassionate world.

Every one of our congregation’s children should have the chance to go to Jewish camp, regardless of their family’s financial situation. The assistance provided by our Congregation Albert Scholarship Committee ensures that our community’s children and teens have the opportunity to experience joyful Judaism in an immersive, rewarding environment, and make friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

The Congregation Albert Youth and Camp Scholarship Fund has helped many of our children and teens experience the fun, excitement and discovery of Jewish camps such as our own Camp Oranim Day Camp, as well as outstanding Jewish residential camps all across the country. The Jewish camp experience connects the activities, friendships, and collaboration of a conventional summer camp with Jewish values, role models and culture.

All the things we, as Jews, continually rededicate ourselves to each Yom Kippur – our altruistic values and principled ethics, our beautiful rituals and meaningful practices, our resilience of spirit, and our commitment to help heal the world – rely on young people carrying their Jewish identity forward into the future. Please help us all realize the vision of l’dor v’dor by generously supporting the Congregation Albert Youth and Camp Scholarship Fund this year through our Kol Nidre campaign.

L’Shanah Tovah,

Charna Lefton
