On normal Fridays, Challah Bakers bake plain, raisin, cinnamon, green chile, and cinnamon-raisin. Sometimes, for fun and/or education, we experiment with other things: green chile, rosemary-onion, beer-cheese, or apple. Our challot are available to the congregation, Caring Committee, pre-school, religious school, for weekly and holiday services at Congregation Albert, and for services at La Vida Llena. We bake our biggest numbers for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We also bake ceremonials (5-pound challot) for youth becoming B’nai Mitzvah.
Some of the projects that have been undertaken are:
baking for the Jewish Care Program of the Jewish Federation of New Mexico. These challot were in Chanukah outreach baskets, which went to isolated Jewish seniors and Holocaust survivors throughout New Mexico
baking for the Congregation Albert Chanukah Festival
baking for the JCC Nosh Fest
baking for the Veterans Integration Center (VIC). VIC’s goal is to enable Veterans and their families to achieve stable housing, financial security, and a renewed sense of community
