Tashlich - September 2001

Tashlich

The Tashlich Service sponsored by Rosh Chodesh and led by Elisheva Crowell will be held at 3:00 p.m. on September 18th on a sand bar in the Rio Grande.

The custom of reciting Tashlich near a body of moving water comes from a passage in Micah 7:19--”You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” It symbolizes our hope that God will dismiss our sins during these Ten Days of Repentance. The service consists of some teaching about the ritual, some singing and the casting of bread crumbs into the Rio Grande.

Please join us in this moving and meditative service.

DIRECTIONS TO THE ALAMEDA BRIDGE:
Take I-25 North to the Alameda Exit. Take Alameda west through the lights at Edith, Second, Fourth, North Rio Grande and South Rio Grande. Just after passing the light at south Rio Grande (The Bosque Bull Cafe is on your right as you go west) there will be a parking lot for the Rio Grande State Open Space on the south side of Alameda. (To the left for those going west). Turn into the parking lot and park there. Enter the Open Space at the west end of the parking lot and take the bike trail north (to the right) under the Alameda Bridge. Then go up the hill west again, and meet on the beach just north of the Alameda Bridge. We will proceed as a group from there to the sand bars.
