The Introduction to Judaism program provides some of the essential elements needed for a foundation of Jewish knowledge. The program is limited by constraints of time and class size, and therefore only the most basic elements of several categories will be discussed. Each student is asked to begin the course with an awareness that this program is by conception and implementation insufficient and incomplete. We can provide, at best, an outline to the vastness of Jewish law, knowledge, literature, observance, and contemporary concerns. The class is held every fall for approximately 16 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. It is taught by Rabbi Kosovske and occasional guest teachers. Registration usually begins at the end of June / early July and the first class will be on September 28th. To register for this class or to have your name placed on a contact list for more information, contact the Clergy Assistant.
The required books for this class are:
1. A History of the Jewish Experience - Leo Trepp
2. Night - Eli Wiesel
3. The How To Handbook For Jewish Living - Rabbi Kerry Olitzky and Rabbi Ronald Isaacs
4. Living A Jewish Life - Anita Diamant and Howard Cooper
5. What Is A Jew - Rabbi Morris N. Kertzer and Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman
6. Introduction to Judaism: A Sourcebook UAHC Press
You may either purchase these books on your own before the beginning of the first class or you may purchase them through Congregation Albert.
