Congregation Albert Sisterhood - January 2006

Sisterhood News

We are sure that you have just finished making resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, get organized or spend more time with the family. Women of Reform Judaism also makes resolutions; every two years all Sisterhood delegates (CA sent four) vote at the Biennial. At the 45th WRJ Assembly we adopted many resolutions regarding adolescent self-destructive behavior, needs of men and women in the Armed Forces and scientific integrity, but the one that felt closest to our hearts was Ending Global Poverty. As we are taught: There is no lot which is harder than poverty, for he who is crushed by poverty is as if he were crushed by all the afflictions of the world. (Exodus R., Mishpatim, xxxI, 12)

Issue: For many nations this is a time of unparalleled wealth and prosperity, yet globally more than 800 million people go hungry every day, of which 300 million are children. More than one billion people lack access to clean drinking water; 2.6 billion live without basic sanitation facilities.

Resolution: In accordance with long-standing commitments to social and economic justice, Women of Reform Judaism resolves to endorse the Millennium Development Goals to work towards ending global poverty, the first of nine specific points within this resolution. For more information, log into http://wrj.rj.org/assembly05.

We hope that another of your new resolutions this year will be to join Sisterhood, and add your voice to ours. Please, take a look at the upcoming events…and we hope to see you there!

Shalom!

Order Special Sweets for Purim

"Mishloach Manot" (Hebrew) or "Slach anos (Yiddish) means "sending portions" and refers to food baskets given on Purim.

It's so easy to get "caught up" in the celebration of secular holidays or the "Christmatizing" of Chanukah. We all know that Purim is a MAJOR Jewish holiday, but sometimes don't know how to make it major in our lives and the lives of our family and friends. Have you been trying to think of a way to make your celebration of Purim really special this year? Well, Sisterhood is here to help.

For just $5.00 per basket you can send Mishloach Manot to all your friends and family this Purim. What an affordable way to perform this special Purim Mitzvah!

Click here for the order blank...and don't forget to attend the annual Purim Carnival.
