School News - January 2006
From
the Director of Education
I'm writing this article after returning home from Jazzercise, a great one-hour class that combines stretching, aerobics, jazz dance, and strength conditioning. While I was dancing and sweating, I began thinking about how good it felt, and that being involved in a congregation has the same potential to make people feel good in different ways.I love the fact that there are so many different types of people at so many different fitness levels who come together to exercise: women and men, young and old, slender and zaftig, great dancers and people with no rhythm at all. Our enthusiastic teacher tells us, "Remember, you can always do low impact. Listen to your body, do the moves at your own pace, because it's still a good workout!"
A congregation is also made up of many different types of people who come together to find a good "workout" for their soul: women and men, young and old, Hebrew and non-Hebrew readers, observant and non-observant Jews. Some get it praying, some by studying, some by being involved in Jewish activities. And just like at Jazzercise, our enthusiastic "instructors" create a safe and enjoyable environment for participants to "exercise" Jewishly: the rabbi and cantor, the Friday morning challah bakers, the adult education teachers, and so many more.
If you've made your New Year's resolution to eat healthy and exercise more this year, I applaud you. I also encourage you to do something at Congregation Albert that gets your "Jewish adrenaline" pumping. To add to our already long list of options, the Adult Education Committee has created a great program of classes and workshops for the spring semester.
Wishing you a year of being fit physically and Jewishly,
Marcia Mermelstein

From the E.C.C.
It's finally time to take a breath after the incredibly full holiday based curriculum that filled our first semester so positively. Attendance at various Congregation Albert happenings was pleasantly full of early childhood families enjoying their new Temple connections. Our kindergarten class was consecrated in the lovely service led by Dale Cooperman and Sheryl Faulconer, and has been running smoothly ever since.
It's hard to believe that when you read this Chanukah will be a distant memory and Purim almost around the corner! If you're ever in the building and you would like to brighten your day, come by and see the smiling faces of the best and brightest children around; that's what you find at our school. Remember too that your Bartons Candy order benefits all our educational programs.
Shalom from Bonnie Joy Evnetsky and the Staff
