Congregation Albert Brotherhood invites you
to a Special Brunch Program
Sunday, January 22, 10 am, Social Hall
"What I'm fighting for and why:
Mikey Weinstein's Battle to Keep Church and State Separate"
Join Mikey Weinstein as he addresses why this issue
is
so vitally important to our country,
and how you can support his efforts.
Albuquerque attorney and businessman Mikey Weinstein has become a leader in the national movement to restore the constitutionally mandated separation of church and state, a line that has been eroded by efforts of the religious right and the Christian Coalition. National media have covered his efforts extensively. In October, Weinstein filed suit in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque against the U.S. Air Force and the Secretary of the Air Force. His complaint accuses Christian chaplains and evangelical groups at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs of proselytizing, targeting in particular cadets and staff who are non-religious or unaffiliated.
Weinstein is part of a Jewish family whose three generations of military academy graduates represent 115 years of combined active military duty. He was a judge advocate in the Air Force, a federal prosecutor, defense attorney, and attorney in the Reagan White House with the Office of Management and Budget, and assistant general counsel in the Executive Office. Weinstein later worked in international law in Washington DC and New York, before taking a position as general counsel at Perot Systems Corporation, where he is currently Director of Business Development for Department of Energy programs.
The cost for brunch is $7 for Brotherhood and Sisterhood members and $9 for all others. Please reserve by January 19 by calling the CAB Response Line at 883-1818, ext. 3203, and leaving your name, phone number, and the number of reservations. This is likely to be a full house, so reserve early.
We look forward to seeing you there,
Rick Nathanson & Allan Lerner, CAB Program Co-Chairs
