What could be more pleasant than an afternoon and early evening of culture and cuisine?

Chamber Music of Albuquerque presents the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, at Simms Center at Albuquerque Academy, 6400 Wyoming NE.

Arrive at 2 pm for the optional pre-concert lecture by Dan Haik, providing excerpts and explanations of the music of Bach, Villa-Lobos, Guarneri and Albeniz.

Then at 3 pm settle into your center section seats in the acoustically splendid auditorium for two hours of the finest in contemporary guitar music, with an almost orchestral quality resulting from four guitars.

Immediately following the concert, drive just around the corner to Tanoan Country Club, where you will enjoy a most elegant early dinner while a quartet of New Mexico Symphony musicians entertains with more fine music.

Cost is $125 per person, payable by check to the Temple, or you may call with your credit card information. Reserve as soon as possible to guarantee the best seats. Support our congregation and spend a wonderful time nourishing both mind and body!

From The Temple Office

To enhance communication and use all the avenues available to members, we remind you of several items here.

If You Have Internet Access At Home

Log on to www.congregationalbert.org and get acquainted with our beautiful, user-friendly website. Print out a flyer or a form you may have misplaced, see additional photos and more in color, re-read an article you may have missed or wanted to save, restore a contact you had forgotten to copy. The web site provides instant and easy access to every aspect of Congregational life, often sooner than the actual publication of the bulletin; it is there to serve you.

If You Do Not Have Internet Access At Home

If you would like to be called when someone passes away, or if you wish to receive other time-sensitive information that we post only on our website but do not mail out, please call the Temple. If you want a copy of a past flyer, there is a usually a supply at Temple. Call the Temple for help if you cannot get there.

Entertainment Books

are still available for $35. Even if you start using one in December, you will get your money's worth almost immediately. Remember that they make a great Chanukah gift if you don't know what to get someone special.

Congregation Albert is Going to Israel in July 2006

An enthusiastic group of 26 adults and children has already pre-registered to accompany Rabbi Joe and Sue Black on their Israel tour, from July 5-16. You can still reserve a place, but reservations cannot be guaranteed after January 15, 2006 since seats on planes and hotel space will be at a premium this summer. The price of $2789, double occupancy, plus departure taxes and surcharges, covers touring in several cities, many meals, and of course the guidance of our own Rabbi along with professional tour guides in Israel. There are significant discounts available for parents sharing rooms with children, especially those of bar or bat mitzvah age.

The opportunity to travel with your own congregation and Rabbi makes this trip unique and not to be missed; if you have been considering this trip, call the Temple or go to the website for details as soon as possible to make it a reality.

A Health Tip That Could Save A Life

Doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking the patient three simple questions:

  1. SMILE.
  2. RAISE BOTH ARMS.
  3. SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today).

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Mazel Tov

Don't be shy about sharing your own simchas; we will also use this space to celebrate someone else's simcha when it is appropriate to do so.

Susan & Sam Keith's daughter, Sharon Silberg, recently was honored with the Samuel A. Goldsmith Award. The award is presented each year to a young person under the age of 35 who has served with professional distinction in a Jewish communal agency in the metropolitan Chicago area.

Allan Levine just celebrated his second Bar Mitzvah at age 83. One of the most touching moments came when he held our Holocaust Torah, and Rabbi Black noted that during Allan's first Bar Mitzvah in 1935, a Czech boy was probably holding that Torah the very same day. Allan himself had carried another of the Westminster Holocaust Torahs to the United States.

Sarah Newman, daughter of Pat & Dan, lives in Medford, Oregon where she works as a buyer for the store division of Harry & David, the gourmet food catalogue company.

Barbara Reeback, recently retired from Albuquerque Academy, received the NM Organization of Language Educators 2005 award for Lifetime Achievement and a NM State Department of Education Commendation for Excellence in teaching French language, culture and literature. She had earned the NMOLE 1991 Outstanding Teacher Award, as well as fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, National Endowment for Humanities, American Association of French Teachers and travel research grants to Mexico, Louisiana, Quebec, and France during her career.

A Time to Talk

is facilitated by Pearl Gross, the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the Temple. It is designed for the bereaved members of our community. This is a time to talk about your loved ones, to remember them and to share those remembrances in a safe, confidential setting.
