Congregation Albert Sisterhood - November 2005
Sisterhood News
In this month of giving thanks, it is only fitting to thank our own community for the overwhelming response to the Hurricane Katrina effort. We held a two-week drive to collect items for Temple B'nai Israel in Baton Rouge, to accommodate the needs of more than 60 families that took refuge in their synagogue during the aftermath of the hurricane. We sent 20 boxes! We also received monetary donations from Brotherhood and many other people, including non-members, to pay for shipping expenses and donate to reconstruction efforts. On October 18 we held our paid-up membership Fashion Show. It was lovely to see many returning and new Sisterhood members. We are still well below our goal of 50% membership: we have 689 families but only 170 members. Do the math and join; together we can accomplish so much!
Mark your calendars for the November 10 luncheon, with a program on Ansel Adams. The Biennial, an incredibly revitalizing experience, will take place in Houston from November 16-19: four days with 5,000 Reform Jews (URJ and WRJ) praying, studying and meeting together. This year, four Sisterhood members will attend. We hope you will consider coming next time; the more the merrier!
Saying thanks does not always come easily to us. Remember how much work we had to put into teaching our children those social graces? We need to express gratitude for what we have, and it feels so good to bring to our lips the appropriate b'racha! Happy Thanksgiving!
Shalom!
