End of Life Planning:
May Your Memory Be For a Blessing

The extraordinary legal battles and intense media coverage surrounding the case of Terri Schiavo, a young woman without written healthcare directives who experienced cardiac arrest and massive brain damage, brought complex social, religious and political forces into open conflict. What lessons can we learn from this nationally wrenching tragedy? Are resources available to help guide you and your family members in openly discussing the often-difficult issues of death and dying? What Jewish perspectives and practices help inform end of life decision-making?

Join us for a panel discussion on Sunday, November 20 that will address these questions. Panel participants will include Rob Schwartz, Professor of Law and Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico, Elisheva Levin, Ph.D., of the Chevra Kadisha (Sacred Burial Society), and Anne Simpson, M.D., director of the Institute for Ethics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

Brunch will be served in the Social Hall of Congregation Albert at 10:00 am, followed by the program. The cost is $7 for Brotherhood and Sisterhood members and $9 for all others. Seating for the brunch, which is open to the public, is limited. You may arrive about 10:30 for the program only, if there is space. Reservations should be made no later than November 17 by calling 883-1818 ext. 3203. Reservations can also be made by emailing .
