From the Director of Education

Dear Friends,

As we enter the month of Elul, a time of introspection, I find myself reflecting not only on this past year but on all the years we have spent in Albuquerque.

Since the day John, Adam, Josh and I moved to Albuquerque and joined Congregation Albert, it felt like home. Many of you opened your hearts and homes and welcomed us into this community. We have made lifelong friends here in Albuquerque and I have truly been blessed to work alongside Rabbi Black, Cantor Finn, the staff, the Board of Trustees, and the tremendously gifted faculty of our Religious and Hebrew school.

My years of Director of Education have been filled with wonderful memories and times of great support. So many memories fill my heart: greeting you on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, sharing the experiences of summer camp and family camp as well as the many handfuls of M&Ms. I have especially loved seeing so many students grow up and become taller than me.  Thank you for allowing us to share in your simchas as you were a part of ours. I have made more than lifelong friends, I have made lifelong memories.

To say I feel blessed seems like an understatement. Since the announcement was made that we are leaving New Mexico, we have received many calls, cards and good wishes; todah rabah.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but I would like to thank you for all you have shared and taught me.

With much fondness and warmest wishes,
Leah, John, Adam & Joshua Schaer

News from the ECC Committee

Thank You For The New Playground

The Early Childhood Center (ECC) Committee would like to thank the Congregation for the wonderful new playground for the kids in the ECC and the Religious School. Fundraising efforts over the years from sales of gift wrap and Passover candy, and contributions to the school and building funds helped us to buy and install the new playground equipment. Special thanks go to Danielle Panter, and Colin, Caleb, Libby and Eliana Shaw for their contribution of the fabulous shade structure. We New Mexicans truly appreciate the shade they have provided for us.

We could not have chosen and installed such a wonderful structure without enormous help from Janet Stewart, Pam Jacobs and Margie Pintzow. They measured, planned, shopped and figured out what we needed, and then worked hard to complete the installation. Ilana Locke and Elizabeth Cleland's support were unfailing; without their perseverance we could not have completed this project.

Thank you also to the Board and Executive Committee for your unwavering support. Thank you to Rebeca Zimmermann and Evie Zlotkin and the other fundraisers in the ECC and Religious Education Committees.

We have moved from Bonnie's vision to a great new playground for our kids.

Bronnie Blaugrund & Karen Kahn, ECC Committee
