Congregation Albert Sisterhood - May 2005
Sisterhood News
Israeli Merchants traveling through New MexicoLast month I got a call from an Israeli merchant who said he was in Albuquerque for only a day and wanted to come and show me his wares. I made some time and he showed me all kinds of beautiful Judaica, some of which he and his wife had made themselves. He said he had a shop in Jerusalem and business wasn't so good and that's why he was here. He had rented a car and was driving from city to city, staying at Motel 6s because not enough tourists were coming to his shop in Jerusalem. I was glad I had made the time to meet with him and I bought a lot of beautiful items for our gift shop.
The Congregation Albert Gift Shop isn't only a source of Judaica for our members and others, it's much more. In addition to raising money for Sisterhood, the gift shop has an impact beyond our congregation that goes all the way to Israel!
When you spend money at the gift shop, you should know that we are entirely staffed by volunteers and 100% of the profits go to support all these varied good causes. So come and see all our wonderful new merchandise from Israel. Speaking of volunteers, the gift shop would love to expand their hours, so if you are able to give a few hours a week to work a shift, please contact Sue Black at suerblack@aol.com or 344-6230. It's fun, you get a 20% discount on all merchandise, and you're doing a mitzvah.

P.S. Speaking of Israel, if you would like more information on Reform initiatives in Israel, go to the web site of
the Association of Reform Zionists of America (www.ARZA.org). Sisterhood looks forward to seeing many of you
at our fabulous Donor Luncheon on May 22 (see flyer included in this Bulletin).

The 2005 Purim Carnival
Shuffle off to Shushan
Dear Volunteer who kindly Shuffled off to Shushan...
On behalf of Congregation Albert Sisterhood, we would like to thank you for your help with the Purim Carnival. As you know the carnival is a major annual fundraising event for the Sisterhood and allows us to underwrite various projects at Congregation Albert, as well as participate in functions that benefit the greater Albuquerque community. The success of the Purim Carnival depends on the continued support of volunteers like you.
I am happy to report that once again the carnival was a wonderful success !
- The Hamantashen SOLD OUT thanks to our dedicated bakers and sellers
- We raffled over 75 great items donated by generous community members
- The Shushan Village told great fortunes and painted many nails and faces
- Carnival goers dressed like Esther and Haman Jumped like mad in the Jumper
- The TASTY team conducted fabulous carnival games with terrific prizes
- The ECC staff hosted the ever popular CAKE WALK with treats galore
- Diane the Magicianne dazzled us with her amazing magic tricks
- Our ten dedicated Merchants happily reported brisk sales
- The Brotherhood Deli always a deliciously, huge success SOLD OUT of our favorites
- And there were Joan, DeeDee, Rita, Rhonda, Sue, Judy, Marina, Marina, Robin, Bonnie, Leah, Ilana, Rick, Diana, Sally and Tony who led teams or helped in a specific way so this could happen
- So many generously lent a hand, gave their time, their talent, their love and support to create something wonderful for our families, our children and our community.
Once again, Todah Rabah ! We hope we can count on your future support.
