Congregation Albert Sisterhood - March 2005
Sisterhood News
Sisterhood NewsMarch is a busy month for Sisterhood. On Sunday morning, both February 27 and March 6 at 9:30, we will be baking hamentaschen for the Purim Carnival. This is always a fun project, and you'll have a great time baking with us. Call Marina Rabinowitz for details. On Thursday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. we will have a dessert program featuring Dr. Ian Rabinowitz and Dr. David Bennahum discussing stem cell research. Sunday, March 13 we will be shuffling off to Shushan at our fantastic Purim Carnival. You won't want to miss the best Purim bash in town. On Thursday, March 17 we will present a program featuring Flamenco dancing. More information on all these events can be found within this Bulletin.
We are starting the countdown to the famous Rummage Sale in July. Start saving your treasures now, and watch for more information. We can use many helping hands as well. Join the fun!

From Your Royal Purim Broadcasters:
Shuffle Off to Shushan on March 13We are back! Get ready for another exciting Purim Carnival on March 13, with Costume Parade, Shushan Village, games, raffle drawing, yummy bake sale, magician, jumping station and of course, wonderful deli food provided by the Brotherhood. A costume contest & parade will begin the festivities. As Sunday school concludes at 11:30 a.m., the carnival will officially begin.
We know it's an early celebration but we couldn't wait and we were afraid that you would be out of town for the real date. So start shuffling.
Why to Shushan? "The sages prescribed several dates for the Megillah reading: on the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth of the month of Adar, neither earlier nor later. Cities encircled by a wall from the days of Joshua, the son of Nun read on the fifteenth; villages and large towns read it on the fourteenth except that villages read earlier on the day of assembly. (Although in modern times, the Megillah is read on the evening and morning of the fourteenth). The fifteenth is observed as "Shushan Purim" (Esther chapter 9 verses 14-22). In the unwalled villages, the Jews got relief to fight against Haman on the fourteenth day thereof, making it a day of feasting and joy and the sending of portions one to another; in Shushan, they got relief on the fifteenth. "Although the castle city of Shushan was not surrounded by a wall in the days of Joshua the son of Nun, the Megillah is read there on the fifteenth of Adar because it was there that the miracle occurred, as it is written (Esther, 9:18).
If you have any suggestions or comments, would like to secure a merchant booth or would like to be a volunteer in any capacity, please contact Kathy Davis at 345-4460. The participation of our congregation and our community is what makes this event so successful.
