From the President - March 2005

Dear Friends:

In last month's column, I wrote about the diversity of our congregation. This month I'm going to discuss the personality of our temple. I'm writing this following a wonderful weekend in which we installed our beloved Barbara Finn as our Cantor.

What an inspiring and uplifting weekend it was! Our sanctuary was literally overflowing, and the accolades from guests and members alike gave me pause to think about who we are as a temple community. Like our individual personalities, our temple's personality represents who we are as a congregation. It also projects who we are to the Albuquerque community at large. Whether we are hosting the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday or debating the use of our building by a new organization in support of equal rights, it is our personality to do the "right thing."

I see a genuine love for our temple community. It is a caring community, and one that celebrates its diversity. There is a coming together as we celebrate or mourn; we dig deep into our wallets to support the many sides of temple life. I am very proud to call Congregation Albert my temple, my spiritual home. I hope you are, as well.

Telephone Tree … Some among us do not have access to a computer, meaning they do not receive timely notification if one of our members or family of a member dies. If you are interested in being part of a phone tree to make and receive calls with regard to death notices, please call the office. Based on your response, we'll determine the viability of establishing a phone tree.

B'shalom
Gary Singer
