From the President - February 2005

Dear Friends:

Some of you are aware that my avocation since coming to the Land of Enchantment is photography. A few of you have even honored me by purchasing some of my work. A key to successful photography is composition ... the actual framing of the image itself. What do I see as I look through my lens at Congregation Albert?

Being a large congregation and the only Reform temple in Albuquerque, it's not surprising to see that we are a very diverse group. This diversity helps shape who we are and how we behave and covers just about every aspect of temple life. There is the diversity of age, from young couples with infants to those of us who have many years of `experience.' There is a mix of singles and married. There are those who prefer classic Reform services versus what's referred to as traditional Reform. We have members who are financially comfortable, and those who need our collective support.

In composing the picture of our temple community I see a caring community of people helping people. I also see a spiritually connected congregation that does its best to live by the laws of Judaism. We hold hands at the end of services as we receive the blessings of our clergy to signify our love for one another. Most of all, I see family, the diverse family of Congregation Albert. We are a family that sings together, prays together and cares for each other. It makes for a powerful image.

B'shalom
