Congregation Albert Sisterhood - January 2005
Sisterhood News
This is the time of year when we are all making New Year's resolutions - to lose weight, or exercise more, or to finally get organized. The Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), which is the national umbrella under which Sisterhoods operate, also makes resolutions. These resolutions, however, call on all Sisterhoods to serve humanitarian and social action causes. The mandates of Jewish tradition and WRJ's constitution are the basis for our resolutions, on which our WRJ policies are based. The resolutions are adopted by a vote of the delegates to the WRJ Assembly. Every Sisterhood member throughout the country has the opportunity to participate in the resolutions process and discussions. At the last 4th WRJ Assembly, the following resolutions were adopted:Other resolutions have addressed human rights, gun control, violence against women, economic justice, advocacy for Israel, and reproductive rights and health.
We hope that one of your new resolutions this year will be to join Sisterhood, and to add your voice to ours. Together we can make a difference in this world!
We hope to see you on Jan. 13 for our luncheon featuring Dr. Noel Pugach and on Jan. 20 for an evening dessert program featuring Dr. John Graham. And don't get left behind on Feb. 5 when Sisterhood members gather at the Hyatt Tamaya for our Jewish Journey - 18 hours of worship, study, and having fun being together as Sisters. Call us for more information.
