Congregation Albert Sisterhood - December 2004
Sisterhood News
Don't miss our annual Joint Sisterhood Luncheon on December 16 here at Congregation Albert. The Sisterhood of B'nai Israel will be our guests for an afternoon of entertainment by Musical Theater Southwest. Looking ahead, a very special event is scheduled for February 5-6. Sisterhood members are invited to gather together at the Hyatt Tamaya for 18 hours of friendship, fun, Jewish study, worship, and just being together as a Sisterhood. We are very excited about this "Jewish Journey", but registration is limited. Watch for your invitation and don't be left behind! We will soon be dusting off our menorahs for Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. During this holiday we rededicate ourselves to the ideals of freedom and liberty for which the Maccabees fought. This year, as we light the eight candles, let us dedicate each flame to the highest ideals and values of the Jewish people:

Sisters Together
The Sisterhood of Congregation Albert invites its members* to Sisters Together, a gathering of women to discover and share the Jewish Sisterhood journey, from Sarah to Miriam to Deborah to Golda to ourselves. The event, the first of its kind, will be held Saturday evening, February 5 through Sunday, February 6 at the Hyatt Tamaya, Santa Ana Pueblo. The Sisterhood encourages all members to come share chai together, 18 hours guided by binah (understanding), energized by ruach (spirit) and warmed by kavannat ha-lev (direction of the heart). Think Pajama Party with a Jewish Soul!
Featured guest speaker will be Janet Gaines, Ph.D. Her talk, "Harridan or Heroine" will be presented Saturday evening following Havdalah service and dinner. Janet is a professor of Jewish literature, Bible, Women of the Bible, and Mythology at UNM. On Sunday morning, three workshops will be offered, exploring Jewish culture, music and women in politics. Sisterhood members may elect to stay overnight at Tamaya or attend select events (see below).
Deadline for reservations (which are limited) is December 15, 2004. Overnight package (dinner, lodging - double occupancy, and continental breakfast and Sunday workshops) is $126.00 per person; dinner event only is $54.00, and Sunday morning breakfast and workshops is $36.00; both Saturday and Sunday events WITHOUT lodging is $90.00.
