School News - September 2004

From the Director of Education

The older I get the more often I find myself saying "I can't believe how quickly time flies by." Well, this summer has been no exception! As I am writing this article we are preparing for another wonderful session at Camp Oranim. I would like to say a special thank you to the incredible Oranim staff: Roger Goldstein, Ilana Vogenthaler, Nancy Greenberg, Robyn Schwartz, Josh Schaer, Jason York and Mahina Miller. I would also like to thank our energetic junior counselors: Ayla Young, Jennifer Greenberg, Ian Revo and Zach Rosenberg.

September is going to be a very busy month in the school wing. Hebrew school (4th - 6th grades) and Machon (7th - 10th grade) classes begin on Wednesday, September 8th; Religious School (Sunday) classes (Kindergarten - 6th grade) will begin on Sunday, September 12th.

Our Adult Education program begins this month as well. Under the dedicated guidance of co-chairs of the adult education committee, Pearl Gross and Alan Lerner, we offer a fantastic and diversified selection of learning opportunities. I look forward to seeing you here.

Jewish education is a partnership. It is a unique and holy relationship between home and school, between parents, children and teachers. The success of our program reaches far beyond the years of study within the walls of our Temple.

Rabbi Shimon said "Study of Torah is not the main thing; the doing of Torah is." Take this opportunity to become involved in the many activities, classes and volunteer opportunities we are offering to you here at the temple. We love seeing you here.

On behalf of my family - John, Adam, and Joshua, I would like to wish you a Shanah U'metukah, a good and sweet New Year. May the coming year bring you and yours good health, happiness and peace.

B'shalom,
Leah Schaer
