Committee News - June/July 2004
From the Social Action Committee
It has been a satisfying year. We thank all those who have contributed goods as well as services. We wish everyone a restful, relaxing summer. Return with energy to continue our acts of tzedakah. We organized 3 collections during the year for 3 different agencies: Cuidandos Los Ninos, Healthcare for the Homeless, and at this time of the year, Dolores Gonzales Elementary School. We are greatly in need of a volunteer to deliver the school supplies and uniforms to Dolores Gonzales Elementary School. Neither Judy nor I are available to make deliveries during the months of June, July and August. Please call Judy or me if you can provide assistance. The children of Dolores Gonzales need our help. Pens, pencils, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, crayons, markers, and backpacks are greatly needed. The children also need uniforms: Polo style shirts, red, blue, black, or white in sizes 6-16. Khaki style pants or skirts: khaki, navy, or black, sizes 6-18.
Project Share hums along like a finely tuned engine and always welcomes new participants. Our committee meets only 4 times a year on the second Mondays of September, December, March and June at 7:00 at Congregation Albert.
B'Shalom,
Toby Friedman and Judith Smith
Gateways Shabbat Dinner
Prospective, current and past members of the Gateways program are invited to a summer Shabbat Dinner. Our families will join together at 6:00 pm to observe Shabbat traditions, share mutual experiences, ask questions about Gateways of the staff and others who have experienced the process, and bring food! An 8:00 pm service will follow so we will clean up and clear out before it begins. Of course, you are welcome to remain if you prefer. Please contact for details, including date and to RSVP.
Gateways is Congregation Albert's program for unaffiliated, mixed-faith families with children (and others who feel the program will meet their needs). Adult and children's classes meet to study aspects of Judaism, discuss issues particular to mixed-faith families and work toward plans for each family's religious practice. PLEASE, if you know of a family that might be interested, help us get in touch.
