Congregation Albert Sisterhood - May 2004

Sisterhood News

Mark your calendars now for Sisterhood's May program, scheduled for Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m., featuring dessert and a discussion titled "Personality Types" led by Dr. Brian Grodner. On May 23, we honor our Donors at a fabulous brunch at Tanoan Country Club, featuring a fantastic presentation called "The Harvey Girls and the Santa Fe Railway," sponsored by the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities. For reservations, call Arlene Paglia at 299-8839.

With our programming year winding down, this is a good time to double our efforts and rekindle our energies. It is helpful to remind ourselves of Sisterhood's objectives.

Women of Reform Judaism (our parent body) is a federation of 600 local Sisterhoods with a cumulative membership of close to 100,000! Our primary goal is to strengthen our temple and community, and to ensure the growth and development of Reform Judaism.

B'Shalom,
Linda Hayon and Lori Liebman, Co-Presidents

From Your Royal Purim Broadcasters

Note: The Bulletin regrets not having printed the following article and `thank you' in the April issue due to an error. We apologize for the delay.

Mordechai has left, and the Purim Royal
Broadcasters say: "See you next year!"

This year's theme was Mordechai, who instructed Jews to celebrate their liberation with feasting and gladness and by "sending portions [mishloach manot] to one another and gifts to the poor" - Esther (9:22). In the spirit of Purim, we put together 150 mishloach manot for all the congregants who came to the Megillah reading. The boxes, donated by Linda Hayon, were decorated in Religious School art class. Thanks go to Leah Schaer, Brooke Gold and the children! The goodies were donated by Brad Raisher, Sisterhood and Brotherhood. What a team!

We were successful while having fun! We baked 145 dozen hamentaschen—an all-time record! The raffle had over 60 prizes donated by more than 40 business and individuals. The Unwalled Village was back, as well as the Jumping Station. We had a fantastic magician enjoyed by children and adults. We added games for the very little ones, organized by Gigi Bailey Krosinsky. We also had our always incredibly outstanding Brotherhood Deli, Cake Walk, Games and Shushan Village, and Big Sale.

Thanking all the volunteers who made this Purim Carnival possible is difficult in this small space. You know who you are, and to you goes a heartfelt "todah rabah" from Sisterhood and the Congregation Albert community - especially the children!
