Jim Terr: Jewish Influences on a New Mexican Documentary Filmmaker and All-Around Funnyman

Jim Terr is a nationally broadcast singer/songwriter, satirist, political commentator, author and video producer from Santa Fe. He was raised in what he describes as an "assimilated" Jewish atmosphere in Las Vegas, NM, historically a site of one of the earliest Jewish enclaves in the state.

Jim produced the album Chickenstock, a parody of Woodstock, and he has made numerous culturally and politically satirical recordings that have been broadcast on the ABC, CBS, NBC/Mutual, Westwood One, BBC, NPR and VOA radio networks. Among the national radio and TV personalities that have aired Jim's works are Larry King, Jim Bohannon, G. Gordon Liddy, Jim Hightower, Mike Malloy, Dr. Demento, and Paul Harvey.

Jim's humor books include Letters to Dr. Laura, You Got to Be Stupid to Love Country Music, and The New Mexico Driver's Survival Guide. Many of Jim's films have been highlighted at various film festivals and are met with critical acclaim. Among them are In Their Own Words: 12 Veterans of World War II and We Were There: Seven (NM) Survivors of the Holocaust, which was widely distributed to high schools and libraries throughout New Mexico.

Jim Terr will be the featured speaker at the March 14 Sunday brunch hosted by the Congregation Albert Brotherhood. Jim will perform a selection of his humorous songs, including some from Chickenstock, and he will show portions of his documentary on Holocaust survivors from New Mexico. He will also speak about his assimilated Jewish upbringing in Las Vegas and how that affected his music, politics and Jewish identity.

Join us for this delightful program, which begins at 10 a.m. in the Social Hall of Congregation Albert (3800 Louisiana NE). The cost is $6 for CAB members and $8 for all others. We look forward to seeing you all there.
