From the Administrator - January 2004

Over the last 2600 years the synagogue has evolved into a unique and remarkable institution that has sustained the Jew though every trial and provided structure for our faith to remain alive and relevant. The importance of belonging and supporting a synagogue is one of the basic tenets of Judaism. It is important to me to make sure there is a place of worship, community, and study available to the present and future generations. Therefore, my position as temple administrator is really a part of who I am.

The administrator, with the help of many wonderful, active volunteers, manages the office staff, human resources, the facility and its usage, and the cemetery. The administrator regularly attends and participates in the meetings of the Board of Trustees, the finance committee (Ayn Kemach, Ayn Torah- without money, there is no Torah), and the architectural committee. In addition, the administrator works closely with the clergy to fulfill the goals of the congregation.

My husband, Steven, and I have been members of Congregation Albert since the year 2000. We also are members of a thriving chavurah. I have three children and four granddaughters, and I graduated from Queens College (City College of NY) with a BA in Education and German. I hold national certification as a human resources professional, which was my chosen field for many years. I am a member of the National Association of Temple Administrators.

In closing, I would like to thank the congregants who have introduced themselves to me and welcome others to come in and say hello.

B'shalom,
Ilana Locke
