From the President - December 2003

Shalom, Chaverim:

Kol Nidre Appeal: Many of you have been generous with your contributions to this year's appeal, and the board thanks you. For those of you who have been planning to send in your gifts before year's end, I'm here to tell you that the year is about to end! Please be as generous as you can.

Cantorial Search Update: We are entering the height of the recruitment period for cantors. The Search Committee has already exchanged information with one candidate, and the committee was encouraged by the input it received at a recent meeting of congregants. As the process began, John Graham, Search Committee Chair, had this to say to the American Conference of Cantors placement director:

"With regret, Congregation Albert begins the process of selecting a new cantor. I was chair of the 1997 Cantorial Search Committee, and we have been spoiled by the outstanding professional qualities of Cantor Jacqueline Shuchat-Marx. When I met with her last week, I expressed my sadness that she was leaving and that I had failed to put enough `glue' on her six years ago. She described `amicable contractual differences.' We will miss her fine contributions to this congregation and community."

I would add that Cantor Shuchat-Marx continues to bless us with her musical talents and leadership. Her continued high degree of professionalism is very much appreciated. Please join me as together we sing the praises of Cantor Shuchat-Marx in her remaining months with us, and honor her for her wonderful contributions to our temple.

B'shalom,
Gary Singer, President
