From the President - September 2003
Shalom, Chaverim:
Before I comment on this year's Kol Nidre Appeal, I want to announce that we have received a most generous bequest from the estate of our late friend and leader, Geoffrey Kalmus, may his memory be for a blessing. Geoffrey, ever pragmatic, indicated that part of the money should be used to establish an endowment fund. As an endowment the money would be a congregational asset forever, with the interest generated being used to support the congregation's everyday expenses. A matching fund drive is being planned as a way of honoring Geoffrey's memory.
Geoffrey also wanted us to use some of this money to build a lounge. The need to have a comfortable place to conduct small meetings, to chat with fellow congregants, and to sit before or after service or while waiting for children in the Religious School was a high priority identified in our long-range planning process. Now, we have the money to build it. You'll hear more about the lounge and the matching program soon.
As for this year's Kol Nidre Appeal, we are again offering a choice:
The choice is yours. You can indicate how you wish your contribution to be used or you can let the Board decide. But do give, and give generously to this year's appeal as you have in years past - or more so, if you are able.
On behalf of my wife, Kathy, and the Board of Trustees, I wish you and yours a good and sweet new year, a Shanah Tovah U'metukah, as we enter these Days of Awe.
L'Shanah Tovah,
Gary Singer, President
