From the President - August 2003

Shalom, Chaverim:

I'd like to cover two disparate topics this month: One concerns bricks and mortar, our building; the other, our souls or who we are.

First, the building. Hopefully, by the time you read this we will have begun renovations on the social hall. Through the generosity of our Sisterhood, we are painting walls, replacing carpet and generally sprucing it up. The banquette area will be replaced with closets, one of which will be a permanent storage area for Congregation Albert's historical archives. While the closets may not be completed by the Days of Awe, the remainder of the project will be. Please go out of your way to thank members of the Sisterhood for providing the funds to make this project a reality.

Second, our souls. Everyone knows Congregation Albert is a warm, open, inviting congregation - except, of course, those who feel like strangers. This group includes visitors, the new members, and those who attend services only a few times a year. While we all like to spend time at onegs with those we know, let me suggest that at the next oneg shabbat you make an effort to introduce yourself to someone you haven't previously met. Who knows? You might find you have something in common. More importantly, you will be a true ambassador for your congregation.

B'shalom,
Gary Singer
