From the Cantor - August 2003
Shalom, Chaverim:
We have two fine choirs to augment our worship and spirituality:
Zamir - Our adult volunteer choir rehearses Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m., sings during High Holy Day services and performs one Shabbat evening per month. Zamir sightings also occur at community events and concerts. Our superb choir director, James Bratcher, is a living, breathing compendium of Jewish music through his extensive study and experience as a singer, organist and conductor. Jim has taken Zamir to a new apex in musicianship. Working with him is a gift. Zamir would like to invite congregants to its ranks in all vocal sections. Rehearsals begin August 5. For a complete schedule, contact me.
HaShirah - Our Religious School choir rehearses two or three Sundays per month. We begin with a snack at noon and rehearse until 1 p.m. HaShirah sings at most Family Shabbat services and may also perform at clergy concerts, Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, the Community Hanukkah Festival, Purimspiel and Yom ha' Atzma 'ut (Israel Independence Day). Member families with children in the 3rd grade and older may participate in HaShirah, provided the children attend either Congregation Albert Religious School or Solomon Schechter Day School. Parents provide valuable assistance by transporting their young; rotating snack duty; serving as extra hands and ears; and offering priceless feedback to singers and the director (me). Our first meeting is August 24 at noon, with a pizza lunch provided by me. Please contact me for a complete schedule. I want to see at least 30 children in the choir this year; you can help us meet this goal.
B'shalom u-v'shir,
Cantor Jacqueline L. Shuchat-Marx
