From the President - August 2002

Dear Congregants,

As I enter my second year as your president, I want to reflect on how we are doing as a congregation.

First, our larger membership with its diversity, increases demands on our staff. We have scheduled more programs, events and classes at the Temple.

Our staff has certainly met the challenges and the demands. We do, however, need to carefully assess the effect this growth has on the congregation. We need to plan for the future. The congregation has done well thus far, but we need to be sure that future generations are able to worship, study and be Jewish in a wonderful Temple.

How are we managing the growth?

Our administrator, Judy Weinstein, has diligently monitored our expenses, increased supervision of building usage, and supervised the physical plant and premises. She has brought a high level of professionalism to the entire office.

Leah Schaer and Bonnie Evnetsky have played essential roles in Planning educational programs and guiding the development and growth of our children. This year, the Religious Education Committee was restructured, and we now have two separate committees attending to the specific needs of the religious school and the early childhood care program. The committees are invigorated and ready to do great things this coming year.

Our Rabbi and Cantor have also met the challenges of growth. They have many more demands on their time and have worked hard to meet the additional needs of our congregation. They have met the challenges with humor, song, leadership and inspiration. Our growth, is of course, due in large part to their incredible talent and brilliance. We are so very lucky to have clergy who can connect and relate to the congregation and provide the spiritual leadership that we need.

We are also very fortunate to have a Board of Trustees and officers who care so deeply for the congregation. This group of individuals is very generous with their time, money and commitment.

Growth also brings blessings. The Caring Committee, chaired by Shawn Perry-Turner, has been doing great things such as providing soup, challah, and cheer to the home-bound, and arranging transportation to the Temple. This is a committee that expresses the true values of our congregation.

As we face the challenges ahead, together we can ensure that Congregation Albert remains the wonderful community that it is today.

Michael Gross,
President
