From the President - December 2001

I am extremely pleased to let you know that our Congregation is taking a major step forward in establishing an active Caring Committee. This Committee is charged with the responsibility of performing Bikur Holim. Visiting the ill and assisting those in need is a vital part of being a Jew. Our Congregation has now made the commitment to Bikur Holim and you can expect to hear more about it in the near future. You can also expect that you will asked to help out by contributing some time, some food, some money or some ideas.

This commitment is vital to our community. We have a responsibility to one another and we must, as we grow, continue to nurture the close connection that we have to each other. The best way to keep our congregation warm, inviting and meaningful, is to help those who are in need. We must weave this assistance into the fabric of our congregation.

Shawn Perry Turner has agreed to chair this committee and both the Cantor and Rabbi will be working closely with the committee to make sure that it is a success. The committee members have already attended a workshop, formulated an agenda and have begun to outline goals for the coming year. Assisting Shawn as captains for the three components of the Committee are: Pat Taylor - Outreach to the Sick; Ruth Mondlick - Support to the Homebound; Marina Rabinowitz - Coordinating Rides.

I want to thank each and every member of the committee for agreeing to help out and perform this wonderful but difficult work. They are a shining example of real commitment to caring and assisting those in need.

L'Shalom,
Michael Gross, President
