Sisterhood News and Tributes - May 2000

Sisterhood News

From our Scholar-in-Residence, Rabbi Rachel Sabath, we learned about Avodah which includes study, prayer, social reform and service to our temple. Through Avodah, a lofty human ideal, we will heal ourselves and the world. Therefore, by working for Sisterhood and our congregation, we will create and transmit to our families the values of Judaism. We welcome all of you to join with us in this task.

Did you know that Sisterhood provides the funds for our annual Scholar-in-Residence? Beside supporting our Religious School and helping temple, your dues dollars brings us these wonderful scholars each year.

Many thanks to our telephone callers, under the chairperson, Arlene Paglia, who have labored all year for your reservations: Sally Brodsky, Ilse Clausner, Moreyn Cole, Elaine Feldman, Fran Field, Edythe Gardner, Janice Gordon, JoDell Hirsch, Ida Humphrey, Barbara Mandel, Lillian Madoff, Frances Newman, Betty Rubin, Karen Singer and Peggy Stroik. Without the efforts of these people, our meeting attendance would not have been so high.

Marcia Rosenstein will be the Sisterhood representative to the Jewish Federation for the coming year, 2000-2001. Her responsibility will be attending their various meetings and reporting back to our Board.

Our membership is now 212 plus the additional complimentary members who are new to our congregation. This represents fourteen more members than we had last year. Any new member joining Sisterhood now will have her dues cover the balance of this year and all of next year until June 30, 2001.

Bargain of the Month! Have you been thinking of joining Sisterhood, but haven't yet taken that step? Any new member joining now will have their $30 apply to the balance of this year and all of next year. Can't beat that offer! Send your check to Lydia Horowitz.

Right after Passover, Sisterhood will be sending our letters for Uniongrams to our 2000 confirmands. Instead of sending individual cards, join us in a total congregational greeting!

Still time to come to our Donor Luncheon at the Albuquerque Country Club May 18th. Call Jane Thompson or Fran Liberman for reservations. Save the date Friday, May 12th for our Sisterhood Installation Service. Hope to see you there.

B'Shalom,
Henri Courtnage, President
