A Report from Your Security Committee -
May 2000
The 1998 Kol Nidre Fund Appeal was dedicated to security and
here are the measures that have been implemented.
First, additional lighting fixtures installed in the parking
lots have markedly reduced dark areas.
Second, a cipher-activated security lock has been installed at
both entrances. The inside doors will remain locked at all times,
except during specific congregation activities.
Third, a cipher-locks use policy has been established. The
major points of this policy are:
- At NO time, and under NO circumstances, will any outside
doors be propped open and left unattended. There will be
no exceptions to this rule.
- For some large congregational activities and all
religious services, the front door will remain open and a
security guard hired.
- For all activities open to the general public, the door
will remain open and a security guard hired. The cost of
the security guard will be charged to the organization
sponsoring the activity.
- For those activities attended predominantly by
congregants, the door will remain locked. It will be the
responsibility of the sponsoring organization to admit
the non-congregants to the building as well as to ensure
that the front door remains locked. If the organization
fails to do this on three occasions, they will be
required to pay for security guards for future events.
The Security Committee and Temple Board recognize that some of
these policies have caused inconvenience. However, we know you
agree that creating a safe environment is of utmost importance.
