From the President - May 2000

Dear Friends,

Please make every effort to come to the Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 21st. We are very pleased to be able to present a balanced budget and a newly re-drafted constitution for your consideration.

The balanced budget is the product of hard work by the budget committee, especially Geoffrey Kalmus, chair of the committee and Ed Caplan our Treasurer, and by Judy Weinstein, Leah Schaer, Bonnie Evnetzky and the Religious Education Committee. Thank you.

The newly re-drafted constitution is the work of several years in which many people have identified constitutional changes and problems. Special thanks to Geoffrey Kalmus who took on the yeoman job of actually drafting the new constitution and to the Board of Trustees for their intense and constructive review.

While many of the changes to the constitution are stylistic or an updating to conform to actual practices, there are some substantive changes.

We have added a President-elect position for the 2nd year of a President's term, added one more vice-president to the Executive Committee, allowed for proxy voting so those who cannot attend meetings can still have a vote, added language requested by the IRS to enable us to receive a 501 (c)(3) non-profit letter, changed the language on endowments to provide for a steady return on income in conjunction with a building up of endowment funds, and added a provision limiting use of restricted funds.

Please join us at the annual meeting.

B'Shalom,
Karen Kahn, President
