From the Director of Education - March 2000
This is the month of Adar in which we celebrate Purim. The Talmud says "When a person enters the month of Adar joy increases." Joy and celebration are central to the holiday of Purim. In fact it is a mitzvah to celebrate during Purim.
In the Book of Esther, Mordechai commands the Jewish people to make the 14th of Adar, into a day of "feasting and gladness." Come and join us on Sunday March 19th for the annual Purim spiel (play) and Carnival. Religious school will begin at the regular time of 9:30 AM and the festivities will begin at 11:00AM in the sanctuary. Monday, March 20th, the Megillah reading will take place beginning with a brown bag dinner at 5:30PM. I look forward to seeing you all here.
I am also preparing for our annual Teacher Retreat in Las Vegas, New Mexico on March 11th and 12th (Consequently there will be NO class on 3/12). Cantor Shuchat-Marx will be our scholar in-residence and two of our experienced teachers, Jan Secunda & Janet Ehrlich will be facilitating several of our study sessions. The retreat is made possible through the generous financial support from the Arthur and Naomi Rosenberg Fund.
Todah Rabah from the entire faculty!
Shalom,
Leah Schaer
