From the Finance Committee - February 2000
Put(t) the Shoe On the Other Foot!
In a recent column, the Finance Committee discussed the
importance of fundraising to Congregation Albert's budget. With
membership dues accounting for only 83% of our operating income,
it is imperative that we have at least one or two large,
successful fundraising events a year. We emphasized the need for
ALL members of our congregation to actively support each event,
in whatever way you can. Here is your first opportunity.
Congregation Albert's 4th Annual Golf Tournament will take place on May 7 at Paradise Hills Golf Club. Our financial target for this year's tournament is ambitious, compared to past tournaments. To achieve this goal, we need to maximize our contact with the greater Albuquerque business community, which is where the bulk of this fundraiser's income will come from. The more people and businesses we contact the more successful we will be in securing sponsorships.
Whether you know anything about golf or not is immaterial; you do know people in the community who are in a position to contribute money to worthy causes. They may enjoy a fun day of golf themselves! Who might some of these people or businesses be? Here are just a few examples:
Car Dealers: Have you purchased a car recently? Or are you in the process of buying one? Work with your dealer to sponsor a hole!
Financial Service Companies: Do you bank locally? Talk to your bank manager!
Brokerage Firms: Your stockbroker is always seeking money from you. Put the shoe on the other foot!
And the list goes on. We all know at least one or two or more businesses that are candidates to be sponsors of our golf tournament. This is a numbers game - the more people we contact, the greater our success. Remind potential sponsors of the publicity that will be generated in their name by funding all or part of one of the golf holes.
We will also need a sizable crew of volunteers to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly. People will be needed for check-in on the morning of the tournament as well as acting as hole monitors. And, of course we need golfers yourself, your friends, your business associates!
To learn how you can help to solicit sponsors, to be a sponsor yourself, or to sign up as a volunteer, call one of our Golf Committee co-chairs: Dave Goldstein at 890-3798 (email: davegoldstein@mindspring.com) or Tom Ashe at 867-2134. They have suggestions, materials to help in the solicitation process, and a flyer that details the several sponsorship levels.
This is a big event, folks, and we need your personal involvement to make this one of our most successful fundraisers, ever!
