Sisterhood News - January 2000
The millennium is here and Sisterhood is ready for the challenge as we move forward; hopefully, stronger in the year 2000. Our membership is quickly approaching the two hundred mark and new checks are coming in daily. (If you have not yet paid your current membership, send your $30 dues to Lydia Horowitz).
Our first Book Study Group concluded November 30th. We have already scheduled the next one for Tuesday, Feb. 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th with Glenda Orchant as discussion leader. The subject for the upcoming sessions will be "Proclaim Jubilee-an Interfaith Look at the Millenium Message" and will be based on the book Proclaim Jubilee by Dr. Maria Harris. Material will be provided by Glenda (no book is required). We encourage both women and men to attend. There is no fee for Sisterhood members, but the cost for others is $10.00. Call Leah Schaer, Director of Education, to register.
Jane Thompson and Fran Liberman are busy making plans for the Sisterhood Donor Luncheon. This event will be held on Thursday, May 18th at the Albuquerque Country Club. This is Sisterhood's way of honoring our women who wish to provide additional funds toward our financial commitment to temple and the Religious School. Donors contribute an additional $36 beyond regular dues. Come and join this group of our honored women. If you are not already a Donor, send in your pledge/check today. Watch the Feb. bulletin for more details.
We hope you will join us for the January 10th luncheon with Liz Davenport. Details and reservation information can be found elsewhere in this bulletin. The deadline for reservations is Jan. 6th.
Sisterhood will provide lunch for the city-wide clergy meeting on Thursday, Feb. 3rd. Congregation Albert will host this annual meeting.
Celebrate Valentine's Day with Sisterhood by coming to the Feb. 14th luncheon and fashion show presented by "Articles" from Winrock Mall.
Sunday, Feb. 6th the Green Chili Band will be at Congregation Albert. Be sure to tell all your friends to bring their families to this exciting event. Peggy Stroik, chairperson, is busy working out the details for this program.
The Purim Carnival on Mar. 19th needs your help. The money raised at this event goes to our Religious School. Everyone is needed to make this annual event a success. We need baked goods and workers. Call Sue Black now and tell her she can count on your help.
In keeping with Sisterhood's Constitution, a Nominating Committee for officers for the coming year was formed. The slate of new officers will presented at our February meeting and will be published in the March bulletin. If you are called for an office, please accept as we need the help of all our members to keep Sisterhood strong.
B'shalom,
Henri Courtnage, President
