From the President - January 2000

Dear Friends,

Cantor Jacqueline Shuchat-Marx has now been our cantor for 2 + years. During that short time, Cantor Shuchat-Marx has become an integral part of our Congregation Albert community. Her beautiful voice, her strong spirituality, her compassionate and loving heart, and her patient, skillful teaching add a wonderful dimension to our congregational life.

Our congregation has filled Cantor Shuchat-Marx's plate with a wide variety of responsibilities, which have helped make Congregation Albert a special place to pray, study, and find community. Cantor leads our adult choir, Zamir, and our children's choir, HaShirah. She teaches our Religious School students prayers and songs. She leads our religious services. She prepares our B'nai Mitzvah students for their B'nai Mitzvah. She visits sick and homebound congregants. She makes Shabbat special for our preschool children. She performs ceremonies marking life cycle events. She teaches cantillation and adult B'nai Mitzvah preparation. As a member of our professional staff, she contributes invaluably to our scholars-in-residence and other special programs.

I am pleased to tell you that our Board recently approved a new 5-year contract with Cantor Shuchat-Marx. We look forward to Cantor's continued leadership in our congregation. I want to thank Cantor for coming to Albuquerque, for taking us into her heart and making us part of her life, and for agreeing to continue as cantor as we enter the new millennium.

B'Shalom,
Karen Kahn, President
