Pathways...To Jewish Life Committee - January 2000
As we celebrate the beginning of a new year and a new century, I am happy to announce our own "new beginnings" at Congregation Albert. Two brand new programs are ready to be launched. The Pathways To Jewish Life Committee (formerly known as the Outreach Committee), in response to expressed needs, is accepting enrollment now for these exciting programs. The first session of the Conversion Seminar* will be Tuesday evening January 4th at 7:00 P.M. This series is open ONLY to those who have taken the Introduction to Judaism class (here at Congregation Albert or at any other synagogue). Its specific goal is to offer a bridge to those who have made the decision to convert to Judaism or have recently done so. Rabbi Black and I will be the program facilitators.
On Tuesday, January 11th, The Jewish Home Companion Series* will kick off with a fun and informative program-an adult scavenger hunt-"A House For All". I will be facilitating these sessions with assistance from committee members.
*A complete description of these programs and the others offered by "Pathways" is enclosed in the newsletter attached to this bulletin. The newsletter will be published again in early spring and will be available to all who request it. In addition to calendar information, it will include articles of current interest to intermarried couples and families.
I spent five days of intensive study and training at HUC/JIR in Cincinnati this summer participating in a program called the Outreach Fellows Seminar. With twenty-three others from all regions of the country, I studied with college faculty and shared important insights into the crucial issues faced by intermarried families and Jews-by-choice. I am looking forward to bringing these newly acquired skills and knowledge to this new congregational initiative.
B'shalom,
Glenda Orchant
