Nazi Doctors...Why Did They Do It? - January 2000

Dr. Michael Franzblau"Nazi Doctors…
Why Did They Do It?"

How could physicians, sworn to uphold the Hippocratic Oath, perform atrocities during the Hitler era? On Wednesday, January 12th at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Michael Franzblau, physician and professor of medicine at the University of California, will speak on "Nazi Doctors….Why Did They Do It?"

Dr. Franzblau will trace the concepts of German racial superiority to roots far earlier than the Nazi period. He will discuss how this ingrained belief by the intelligentsia, paved the way for Hitler to adopt and spread his beliefs of German purity to the masses. Franzblau will also explore modern day issues of health care rationing, physician assisted suicide and physician participation in capital punishment, drawing parallels between physician behavior then and now.

Dr. Franzblau lectures throughout the world on the ethical behavior of German physicians in their care of patients during World War II. He was featured on "60 Minutes" for his effort to bring Dr. Hans Sewering to justice for his part in the murder of hundreds of children during 1943-45. Franzblau is a veteran of World War II and lost over 25 family members during the Holocaust.

Please join with Yad b'Yad, the New Mexico Anti-Defamation League and Congregation Albert for a stimulating evening with Dr. Franzblau, January 12th at 7:00 p.m.
