From the Cantor - November 1999
"Tov l'hodot l'Adonai - It
is good to give thanks to God." - Psalm 92
Every November I talk about why Jews in the United States can feel good about celebrating Thanksgiving. And now, my top ten reasons to say Thank You to each other as well:
And the number one reason? Because our parents taught us to do it, and who are we to flout tradition!
You need to know two important facts about this year's Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. The first is that the day and time of the service have changed. Instead of Thanksgiving morning, the service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on the night before Thanksgiving (Erev Yom Hodu, to some). We believe that this change will appeal to more folks and increase attendance; if so, it will become a new and permanent tradition. You also need to know that this year the service will be at Monte Vista Christian Church. The service is typically highlighted by congregational singing and musical contributions by our combined choirs. Come join us and don't forget to say Thank You with your feet, with your voices, and with a non-perishable food item that will be donated to The Storehouse.
At this writing, the High Holy Days have just ended. I close by saying Thank You to every member of Congregation Albert for enabling me to pray with you from the bimah. This is one of the many blessings I receive as your Cantor. Todah rabbah!
B'shalom u-v'shir,
Cantor Jacqueline L. Shuchat-Marx
