From the Rose Garden - October 1999
On a bright and sunny August 29th, almost twenty-five eager Scouts, and a small group of enthusiastic Congregation Albert members, young and others not so youthful, joined together for a Mitzvah Grounds Day here at Congregation Albert.
A group of these able scouts put hands on tools and headed to the rose garden to shovel, dump and spread the crusher fines inside the walking paths. Soon two more smiling volunteers, Jeremy and Eleanor Caves, contributed their time by adding nutrients to each of the roses, and plants.
Regardless of their volunteer work, and the age of the helpers, what I saw and heard was teamwork, cooperation and a positive attitude.
Jerry and I visited the Garden later that same afternoon. Smiles and words of gratitude were verbalized by us both as we looked at today's completed volunteer work. We imagined the added beauty when the four bradford pear trees would be planted later this week as part of the start-up beautification project so generously donated by the Blaugrund family.
It makes our family feel so alive to know that the Michelle Goffe Rose Memorial Garden Foundation is continuing to be funded. Whether a congregant, or a neighbor living near Congregation Albert, we are all able to see the perpetuation of life and feel a sense of peacefulness when we quietly sit on a bench or walk along the crusher fine paths. Because of your continued financial contributions, come May of 2000, roses and perennials will be planted in this second quadrant.
We really have a sense that Michelle is visiting us sometimes and is smiling down on us because her passion for roses is being shared by so many of you.
Sincerely,
Sylvia, Jerry and Rachel Goffe
