Sisterhood News - September 1999
Is it possible that Summer is already over and High Holy Days are just around the corner? These past few months have been very busy for Sisterhood.
You should receive your Congregational High Holiday card any day now. Many thanks to Frances Newman for the well designed cover, as well as to Joan Lubin and Janice Gordon for their many hours of organizing and mailing the cards.
Our new member coffee was held on Tuesday, August 10th. We watched the new video from Women of Reform Judaism, showing our Sisterhood women at work, at worship, celebrating Sisterhood and Judaism.
Following many hours of hard work, the Proctor and Gamble Survey takes place on August 18th and September 1st. Our goal is to have 150 people of all ages to test the products. A thank you to Lydia Horowitz and to all the telephone callers. Without their help, this event would not be possible. Money earned from this survey helps Sisterhood meet its annual commitment to our Religious School and other Congregational programs.
Our second Moveable Feast took place on August 14th and was a smashing success. Each person was invited to two different homes to sample delicious food and returned to the Temple for dessert and entertainment. Many thanks to Joyce Friedman and her committee for all their organizational work. Once again, we are indebted to all our host families who provided the great food and offered their homes for this great affair.
Sisterhood's first luncheon meeting of the year is scheduled for August 30th at 11:30 AM. This exciting program includes guests Roger Melone, Associate Conductor/Choral Director; and Krzysztof Zimowski, Concert Master from the New Mexico Symphony. Also, don't miss Sisterhood's first evening dinner meeting on Monday, Sept. 30 when styles from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's will be modeled by our own members. This is the chance for all women of the congregation who can't make our daytime luncheons to join us. See other side for further details.
Sisterhood will refurbish our kitchen supplies to serve 250 people. We are also working toward finding a cleaning service to once again scrub our kitchen down from top to bottom!
We are excited to sponsor a book study group starting Tuesday, October 26th from 1:00PM - 2:30PM led by Glenda Orchant. This will be a four week group, meeting at the same time each Tuesday except for Election Day, to discuss The Harlot By the Side of the Road, Forbidden Tales of the Bible by Jonathan Kirsch. This is a paperback available through Janet Barksy for $12.00. More information will be in the October Bulletin.
Send in your current membership dues and be the guest of Sisterhood at our October 11th Luncheon.
May the New Year bless all of you and your families with good health, prosperity and happiness.
Henri Courtnage, President
