From the Director of Education - September 1999
Shalom and Todah Rabah. I am happy to be on board as The Director of Education. I would like to begin by thanking everyone for making me feel so welcome and at home. The months of July and August have been busy and rewarding as I become acquainted with my new job as well as with those of you who have stopped by to say hello.
As I write this article, I am also preparing to attend the Conference on Alternatives in Jewish Education in Columbus, Ohio. This year's theme is "Learning Is Great, for Learning Leads to Action." This conference provides me with the opportunity to learn from educators around the world and study with prominent instructors.
Our first day of Religious School is on the day of Kol Nidre, a great time to begin a school year. This is a time to be thinking about what we want to learn, our relationship with each other as Jews and with our Community at Congregation Albert. This is also a time to reflect on how, as parents, we can be involved in the education of our children. Many opportunities exist! All aspects of the education program are in need of parent volunteers. Please leave your name in the school office telling us the days and times you are available
Our Early Childhood Center is up and running. Classes began on August 16. There are a few openings in some of the classes. Please call Bonnie Evnetzky for further details.
Religious School begins on Sunday, September 19, 1999. Thank you to all who have submitted your registration forms prior to the start of school. To those who have yet to do so, please turn them in as soon as possible.
Hebrew School: Our first day will be Wednesday, September 22. Early session begins at 4:00 pm and late session begins at 5:45pm.
Consecration will once again be a part of our Sukkot observance on September 24, 1999. The family's participation in this particular service and in all holiday services and observances is a crucial reinforcement of the religious school curriculum The partnership of school and family is the best way we know to achieve our goals. The Pre-Consecration Shema workshop for students and their parents, newly enrolled in the Sunday Kindergarten & First grade, will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 4:00 p.m. Invitations will be forthcoming.
On behalf of my husband, John, and my children, Adam & Josh, along with the entire faculty I would like to wish you "L'Shannah Tovah tik-a-teyvu". May the coming year bring you good health, happiness and peace.
B'Shalom,
Leah Schaer
