From the Cantor - September 1999

This month marks new beginnings. We celebrate the world's 5760th birthday as we share the awesome sweetness of the Yamim Nora'im (High Holy Days - literally, Days of Awe). We start a New Year in our Religious School as well, the first school year headed by Leah Schaer, our new Director of Education. Although Leah joined the staff at Congregation Albert on July 1, her visibility increases more noticeably with the onset of classes. We think you will like what you'll see and hear! Leah - as well as Rabbi Black and I - will be on hand to welcome students back to Religious School on Sunday, September 19 at a special first-day assembly. I hope to see many religious school parents in the sanctuary as well at 9:40a.m. on that morning to welcome Leah Schaer - and to help us welcome in a new school year!

Zamir Chorale, our adult choir, has been extremely busy preparing for the High Holy Days since the beginning of August. Many of you may be wondering when our junior choir, HaShirah, is going to commence for the year. Due to the calendar and the placement of the High Holy Days and Sukkot, HaShirah will begin rehearsals and take in new members at the beginning of October. HaShirah is open to all children enrolled in Congregation Albert's Religious School. We rehearse after lunch on most Sundays following Religious School. Students in second grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent at all rehearsals. Please contact me as soon as possible if you or your child is interested in joining one of our two fine choirs!

I look forward to praying with you all on S'lichot, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot! May your New Year have a sweet beginning.

B'shalom u-v'shir,

Cantor Jacqueline L. Shuchat-Marx
