From TASTY - June/July 1999
TASTY just returned from our Spring SWFTY Conclave hosted by BITY (Beth Israel in Scottsdale AZ). While we had a great time, we also cried a few tears. This was the last conclave for our 3 seniors Tamara Ning, Sarah Newman, and Joanna Levin.
The theme was 'Times they are a Changin'. Each person picked another person's name and made a gift, such as a decorated cup, painted pot, necklace, or picture frame. This was a great way to meet new people.
Friday morning we discussed how Judaism has changed over the years after watching a Multi "Clip"tual film which included scenes from The Ten Commandments, Fievel Goes West, Yentl, and The Rugrats Passover. That afternoon we held SWFTY board elections, and elected the 1999-2000 executive board.
Rabbi Cohen led Friday night Shabbat services and the next morning we had a beautiful SWFTY Shabbat. For Torah study, we talked about Judaism and each got a puzzle piece. In the end, our puzzle resulted in a short story that described the portion.
Perhaps the best part of the weekend was Saturday afternoon, when all of SWFTY went to a school and spent the afternoon playing with children. This served as the campers annual Mitzvah Corps Project. (For ten days SWFTYites serve as counselors for underprivileged kids.)
We then returned to Beth Israel for Havdallah, Board Installations and Senior Circle. The seniors recalled stories and passed down memorabilia to their friends-and we all cried as we remembered good times. The next morning, it was our last chance for good-byes to our seniors and all of the rest of our friends until SWFTY camp in August.
Tasty would like to thank everyone who has helped us throughout the year. We could never have done it without your help-whether it was buying bagels to help send us to NFTY Convention '99 or just helping us plan an event. TASTY would like to especially thank everyone who helped out with the Purim Carnival. Thank you so much.
