From the Dues Committee - June/July 1999

If you have sent in your pledge form, thank you. If you haven't, it is imperative that you do so as quickly as possible. If you've lost or misplaced your form, call Judy Weinstein at 883-1818. Judy will be happy to either send you a new form or take your 1999/2000 pledge over the phone.

Without completed pledge forms from everyone, our budget and planning for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, will remain a guesstimate. We won't know how much money we can expect to take in to cover expenses. Planning for programs and events takes place many months in advance. The more we know now, the better job committee members can do to make each program and event a success.

In thinking about your pledge, remember that it takes about $1,200 per family unit, or $100 a month, to run our congregation. Our dues policy calls for a guideline of 2% of gross income. While members of Congregation Albert who are unable to pay the actual cost of membership are always welcome, everyone is expected to try and maintain the 2% guideline. Those whose self-assessment of dues is more than the actual cost of membership will be performing the mitzvah of helping others who cannot afford the actual cost of membership.

If your circumstances allow, a pledge of $125 to $249 a month ($1,500 to $2,999 annually) will put you in the Pillar Circle for the coming year, while a pledge of $250 or more a month (minimum of $3,000 a year) qualifies you for the Guardian Circle. Using appreciated stock for dues purposes is one way to meet your commitment. This also serves the secondary purpose of providing you with certain tax advantages. If you would like to learn more about this alternative, you can contact your tax specialist, or call the office and leave your name with Judy Weinstein. You will be contacted and given the necessary information.

Renew your commitment to Congregation Albert today. Please take the time to pledge your dues NOW!
