From the Educator - April 1999
Our own version of "March Madness" has come and gone and it was wonderful!. The beginning of the month highlighted the joy and fun of Purim. We did our best to stamp out evil Haman (but still look forward to doing it all over again next year!).
At the end of the month, we celebrated Pesach with two special programs. The youngest children in the school participated in "Exodus RelivedA Journey Back In Time", a hands-on experience designed to make one feel as if s/he were living in that Biblical period. The students in our Machon program were challenged by a creative writing project designed by Meredith Kopald. Themes from the Haggadah were the basis for their original pieces. The results were outstanding.
Yom HaShoah and Yom Ha-atz Maut are special days in April. It is the time of the year when we focus on the past, the present, and the future of the state of Israel. In addition to the community commemoration of Yom HaShoa and the celebration of Israel Independence Day, special activities are planned for the religious school. On April 25th, we'll combine students from Congregation Bnai Israel and Congregation Albert to study current issues affecting the state and the impact upon we, who live in the United States.
The Jewish calendar is so rich. We have many ways to share our faith and our heritage take advantage of them all!
