What is a Mitzvah? Mitzvah is a word that is often
mis-translated as "good deed." Rabbi Joseph R. Black |
Mitzvah Day
Our second annual Mitzvah Day is almost here! Scheduled for Sunday, May 2, 1999, this community service outreach day will see many of us volunteering to perform "mitzvot" in our larger community. All ages, from our Sunday school children, to our teens, adults and seniors will join together to work on a variety of community service projects to improve our city.
Last year over 250 congregants volunteered their time and services on this day. We hope this year will bring together even more people. Mitzvah Day volunteers will also be honored at a special oneg shabbat scheduled for Friday, June 11th, 1999.
This years agency activities will also include an activity level to give a better idea of the range of exertion. Activity levels will range from sedentary to moderate and also include moderate with possible lifting. We hope this will help you better select the proper activity based on individual needs.
Many of the same agencies will be featured, plus some new ones including the Womens Housing Coalition, UNM Childrens Hospital, Project Share, Peanut Butter and Jelly, the City of Albuquerque Office of Senior Affairs and the Citys Keep Albuquerque Beautiful Program. Hopefully, you will have already received a Mitzvah Day brochure and registration form in the mail. Additional registration materials can be picked up at the Temple office or you can click here to register on-line. Please also make certain you register as soon as possible, hopefully not later than April 16th for priority choices. We look forward to a wonderful day that we can all be very proud of see you on May 2nd!!!
