Elizabeth Selma Cohen Prize - April 1999
Adam Schaer -
1999 Elizabeth Selma Cohen Prize Winner
We are pleased to announce that Adam Schaer, son of Leah and John Schaer, is the 1999 recipient of the Elizabeth Selma Cohen Prize. The prize was established in 1997 in memory of Elizabeth Selma Cohen daughter of Matthew Cohen and consists of an all-expense paid trip to Israel through NFTY in Israel. Previous recipients of the prize are Rachel and Sarah Passman (1997) and Ella Friedman (1998). The prize is awarded each year to a student who shows a generosity of spirit and a commitment to the values of Reform Judaism. Maggie Newman, daughter of Dan and Pat Newman, was chosen as runner-up by the prize committee. This year there were many exceptional candidates for the prize. We want to congratulate all who were nominated and applied.
