From the Educator - March 1999

Attention: Parents of Students in Grades 2-6

Are you and your child ready for a "sleep-away" camp experience...
but have questions about:

  1. cost?
  2. length of stay?
  3. distance from Albuquerque?
  4. appropriateness of program?
  5. staff and supervision?

Well, we have the answers for you! Congregation Albert has been providing a camp experience for our kids and many others in the New Mexico Jewish community for five years. Our site is Camp Stoney, a beautiful location just north of Santa Fe that is familiar to all the children who have participated in our weekend retreat programs.

Camp Oranim (Pines) is the name of the summer experience we offer each year. August 1 - August 8 is the week we have been able to secure for this year’s program. Experience has shown that this length of stay works especially well for a "first-timer". It is equally appropriate for those who have had some opportunities to spend time away from home as evidenced by the many returnees we have each summer.

Roger Goldstein will be returning this year as camp director. He has a wealth of experience in camping and of course is well known to many of our students as the 5th grade teacher. Rabbi Black and Cantor Shuchat-Marx lead and participate in many of the camp activities. Roger is building the counselor staff now and you can be sure that we have high standards for the positions.

Camp Oranim offers a full camp experience that includes swim instruction, sports, arts and crafts, and music. A Jewish theme is selected for the week and activities are planned that relate to it. We create a true Jewish environment in a beautiful setting - what we hope is a memorable experience for all.

A camp brochure will be in the mail soon with all details (including costs) but I will do my best to answer any questions you may have at this time. Just call me at 883-0306.

B’Shalom,
Glenda
