From TASTY - January 1999
November was a great month for TASTY. Our event was bowling with our junior youth group, TAFFY - we all had a great time, with TASTY beating TAFFY (but not by much!). We spent a large part of this month fundraising for the National NFTY Convention in February. Our calendars brought in a decent amount of money, and we started selling Chanukah popcorn tins, which turned out to be a very popular item. The profits will be divided among the Conventioneers that participated in the fundraising efforts, resulting in approximately $100 each, so thank you all very much for your support!
December was our bi-monthly regional event, Winter Conclave, hosted by MSTY (Temple Mount Sinai) in El Paso, Texas. The theme was Keep It Simple SWFTY, which focused on simplifying our lives. We participated in programs such as yoga, time management, meditation, and music. SWFTY's maccabiah was in a park, where we shot water balloons at a target with a slingshot, played softball and flag football, socialized, and just had a good time in general. During lunch, where genuine Mexican food was served, we also had a good time watching the shock that the Arizona and Las Vegas kids had when they discovered that the chili rellenos had whole green chilies inside, instead of carne style chili.
Our social event at The Ranch at the Edge of Texas was tons of fun with a barbecue, socializing, and a dance. We spent some time learning swing from an instructor, and the rest dancing until we wore ourselves out. Overall, the weekend was a blast, with almost all of TASTY attending. We made new friends and bonded with each other.
As always, we are looking for new members, and we encourage all high schoolers to attend at least one TASTY event. Remember, you can't say that you don't like TASTY unless you've been to an event (and then you won't be able to say that you don't like it, because you will have had too much fun!). We will also be continuing to fundraise throughout the month, so please support TASTY, even if it means just buying a bagel after religious school on Sundays.
