Sisterhood News - January 1999
May the new secular year bring good health to all and a determination to carry through our annual resolutions.
A Nominating Committee to select new Sisterhood officers for 1999-2000 was set up at the December Board meeting. According to our Constitution, this committee is comprised of one Board member plus two general Sisterhood members. It is the job of this committee to select candidates for President, Vice-Presidents, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Financial Secretary and Treasurer. The President must have served one year as a member of the Board of Directors and be a member of the Congregation. All other officers can be any Sisterhood member in good standing. The Nominating Committee will report their slate of officers in January or February with the election taking place at the April meeting. Please call me if you are interested in serving in any of these offices.
The December Board meeting was the first time a DVar Torah has been included in our monthly meetings. It was the unanimous decision of the Board to include a DVar Torah in our agenda. This is in compliance with the wishes of the Women of Reform Judaism. We are very proud of our Board for taking this forward step and thank Rabbi Black for his help.
Jane Thompson and Fran Liberman, Donor Chairpersons, are busy making plans for the coming Donor Luncheon on Thursday, May 13th. For just $36 you too can become a donor and join the thirty-three Sisterhood members who have already sent in their checks. Send your check to Lillian Warshawsky at the temple and plan to join us.
A committee to organize Sisterhood meetings during times more available to working people and young mothers met on Thursday, Dec. 11th. Peggy Stroik, Susan Zeman, Karen Kahn and Sue Black are helping formulate plans and programs to attract this particular audience. We welcome anyone interested in being part of this committee.
Many thanks to Shirley Hurwitz and her cooking committee for our delicious lunch at the December Joint Sisterhood meeting. Trudi Handleman did a great job with the table decorations Save your rummage for the Sisterhood sale on June 13th.
Hope to see all of you at the January 11th Sisterhood meeting!
Happy New Year and BShalom,
Henri Courtnage, President
